All state checks are signed by the Treasurer.
The treasurer also runs 3 very important programs for the state that…hold on one second…DON’T COST THE STATE ANY MONEY.
Can you believe it???
The office and its workers and even the treasurer’s salary are paid for through program dollars. $350 Million in Unclaimed Property…the interest pays for the office and is also given to the state public school libraries.
Let’s not forget EdVest – helping families save for college.
And LGIP – my community used $3 million in a loan to build a police station…money from the treasurer’s office.
So, to eliminate it would mean the office gets transported to the Department of Administration since Unclaimed Prperty is a state statute.
Please…learn things before believing this loon.

All state checks are robo signed with the treasurers name. She does not sit at a desk and scribble away. She also can't Not sign a check if she believes the money is being wasted. The treasurer has no say in how any of Wisconsin's budget is spent or allocated other than the money used to run the office.

The State of Wisconsin will still retain the interest earned on unclaimed property even if we have no official Treasurer.

Edvest will continue if we have no State Treasurer. However there will be no more opportunity to hire a person with no experience in investing or finance to a 80 thousand plus job just because they are politically well connected.

The LGIP  they refer to is the Board of Public lands, which has a fund that local communities can borrow money from for local projects. The board consists of the Treasurer, the secretary of State and the Attorney general.  They meet once a month and basically rubber stamp loans to communities. The money does NOT come from the treasurers office. This also will continue if we have no Treasurer.

And Yes the the duties would be transported to the Department of Administration. Thats the whole point. We have the tools in place to handle these thing. We are duplicating jobs and wasting money.

And finally, the whole idea was created by Representative Scott Suder of Abbotsford in 2003. He introduced a constitutional amendment to eliminate the offices of Secretary of State and Treasurer. You can read a press release from his office here on my site under the proposed bill tab. Rep Suder recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan. So If the fellow who wrote this post wants to call himself conservative then I do not think he should call a Citizen veteran who is still serving his country and has been in harms way, away from his family for over a year, a loon. Because by calling me a loon he is calling Rep Suder a loon
